SOUTH FLORIDA-BASED POWERHOUSES ROYAL CARIBBEAN AND INTER MIAMI CF ANNOUNCE UNPRECEDENTED PARTNERSHIP

The World’s Largest Cruise Line is Set to Become the Club’s Main Partner and Official Vacation Partner

MIAMI, Aug. 25, 2023 – Royal Caribbean International and Inter Miami CF have joined forces in an unprecedented, multiyear partnership that will combine the passion and commitment of the respective powerhouses in vacations and sports.

Royal Caribbean will become the Club’s Main Partner and Official Vacation Partner. The world’s largest cruise line and Inter Miami kicked off the first phase of their partnership in a bold way by officially welcoming global fútbol icons and their families to Miami in July. The highly anticipated unveiling event, La Presentación, marked the start of a new era, where the “Freedom to Dream” took center stage in a sold-out DRV PNK Stadium.

“Royal Caribbean started in Miami more than 50 years ago, and we have always had heart and passion for our community,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group. “It's been exciting to see Inter Miami’s success, including their recent Leagues Cup title, energize South Florida. As the Club’s Main Partner, we are thrilled to build on that momentum together and deliver memorable moments to fans around the world.”

“We are proud to partner with Royal Caribbean, an iconic Miami brand,” said Inter Miami CF Managing Owner Jorge Mas. “As a global leader in the cruise industry, Royal Caribbean shares Inter Miami’s innovative drive. Together, we will set the standard for the future of sports partnerships.”

Fans will see the partners unite on and off the field, through stadium LED, in-game content, fan zone activations, the Club’s digital and social platforms, and more starting with the next home game at DRV PNK Stadium. In addition, the two hometown favorites’ shared commitment to the community they call home will come to life across local initiatives in South Florida, building on Royal Caribbean’s decades-long track record of celebrating and contributing to the destinations its ships visit and Inter Miami’s commitment to harnessing the power of fútbol to do good since the Club’s inception.

“We always look for the opportunities that will provide us with an authentic partnership, and this one is a perfect fit,” said Inter Miami CF Chief Business Officer, Xavier Asensi. “This partnership makes total sense for all of us: two local brands with global audiences and huge ambitions.”

“Royal Caribbean and Inter Miami have won the hearts and minds of fans from around the world,” said Kara Wallace, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Royal Caribbean International. “Together as partners, the possibilities to reach more dreamers and adventurers are exponential from ship to pitch, especially as we look forward to the arrival of the new Icon of the Seas to Miami.”

The partnership comes on the heels of the countdown to the start of a new era of vacations. As Miami welcomes one icon, its next is set to make its debut in January 2024 – Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas. As the first-of-its-kind combination of every vacation, from the resort getaway to the beach escape and the theme park adventure, the cruise line’s best-selling ship welcomes every type of family and adventurer. Everyone can make memories together and set out on their own adventures without compromise across record-breaking thrills, relaxing ways to chill, a neighborhood designed for young families, more than 40 ways to dine, drink and be entertained; and more. COSTA CRUISES SUPPORTS “ADDIOPIZZO” MOVEMENT: “PALERMO NO MAFIA TOUR” AVAILABLE FROM TODAY FOR GUESTS OF COSTA SMERALDA

COSTA CRUISES SUPPORTS “ADDIOPIZZO” MOVEMENT: “PALERMO NO MAFIA TOUR” AVAILABLE FROM TODAY FOR GUESTS OF COSTA SMERALDA

The Italian company is promoting an important initiative in favour of ethical and responsible tourism. Every Thursday, during Costa Smeralda's call in Palermo, the ship's Italian and international guests will be able to discover the old town of Palermo with a walking tour of the places of civic anti-mafia resistance and the fight against racketeering, organised by Addiopizzo Travel.

Genoa, 24 August 2023 - Guests arriving every Thursday in Palermo onboard Costa Smeralda will be able to explore the city in a truly unique way by taking part in the 'Palermo No Mafia Tour', a walking tour of Palermo's historic city centre in discovery of the symbolic places of civic anti-mafia resistance and the fight against racketeering. The tour is organised by Addiopizzo Travel, a social cooperative and tour operator created by the Addiopizzo movement, which offers ethical tourism to say no to Mafia.

In line with the principles of its "Manifesto for value-based, sustainable and inclusive tourism”, Costa Cruises has chosen an ethical and responsible shore experience for its guests in Palermo. The 3 hours walking tour will be an eye-opening experience to discover a different face of Palermo, a city which is rebelling against the Mafia. Guided by locals, guests will deepen your knowledge of the notorious Sicilian mob and learn about the anti-mafia movement, beyond the clichés and the Godfather myths.

The itinerary of the 'Palermo No Mafia Tour' winds through the streets of the historic centre, to show a new image of the city. After being welcomed at the port, guests will start the tour from the Teatro Massimo, a place that for many is linked to the imagery of the film 'The Godfather'. Then, guests will reach on foot the Wall of Legality, a mural more than 60 metres high, depicting the faces of those who have fallen in the fight against Mafia, such as Paolo Borsellino, Giovanni Falcone, Peppino Impastato, but also personalities from Sicilian literature and culture, such as Andrea Cammilleri, Leonardo Sciascia and Letizia Battaglia, who have always been on the front line in the fight for legality.

The tour then continues to Piazza Beati Paoli, to tell of the legendary but unfounded link between the sect of Luigi Natoli's novel 'I Beati Paoli' and “Cosa Nostra”, passing through the famous and picturesque Mercato del Capo. The next stop in the tour is Piazza della Memoria, with its memorial dedicated to the magistrates killed by the Mafia behind the Tribunal, and then on to the Cathedral, where will be discussed the issue of Mafia-Church relationships and the anti-Mafia commitment of martyrs such as the priest Don Pino Puglisi. Guests will then reach the City Hall, for many years a symbol of the union between Mafia and politics, but which also experienced the season of the “Palermo Spring”.

The tour also includes a break for critical consumption in one of the shops displaying the logo of the 'Pago chi non paga' campaign: these are shops that have said no to racketeering, publicly declaring that they no longer want to pay protection money. In this way, Costa Smeralda's guests will not only be able to contribute to change by supporting a circuit of ethical and pizzo-free economy, but also to get to know the Addiopizzo network of traders and their stories.

The Addiopizzo Committee is an anti-mafia movement founded in 2004 by a group of young people around a slogan: 'an entire people who pay “pizzo” (protection payment) is a people without dignity'. It operates from the bottom up through the strategy of 'critical consumption', involving citizens and tourists to support with their purchases traders who do not give in to extortionist demands and who have openly spoken out against mafia bullying, as well as offering free assistance to victims of extortion and usury.

Costa Smeralda is a state-of-the-art ship powered by liquefied natural gas, the most advanced technology currently available in the maritime industry for cutting emissions. Until 14 March 2024 Costa Smeralda will call in Palermo every Thursday as part of a week-long itinerary in the Western Mediterranean that includes Civitavecchia, Savona, Marseille, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. From 23 March 2024 until the end of the year, it will instead be Costa Toscana, sister ship of Costa Smeralda, which will call in Palermo every week.

The 'Palermo No Mafia Tours' can be booked by guests before the departure of the cruise, in the special section of MyCosta.com, Costa's website that allows them to customise their holiday, or directly on board the ship.

Making waves in the arts: Cunard partners with pop art phenomenon Mr. Brainwash for unique Queen Elizabeth mural

VALENCIA, Calif., Aug. 23, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Cunard has raised the anchor on an exciting collaboration with pop art phenomenon Mr. Brainwash as the luxury cruise line continues to champion artistic excellence at sea.

Thierry Guetta, AKA Mr. Brainwash, joined guests and VIPs aboard Queen Elizabeth in his hometown of Los Angeles yesterday (August 22) for an exclusive ceremony in which he officially unveiled a new mural in the ship's Garden Lounge.

The mural is an intricate patchwork of iconic Cunard marketing posters from the 1920s, with Mr. Brainwash spray-painting a unique finishing touch, in his signature graffiti style, during the ceremony to celebrate the best of Cunard and contemporary art.

The bespoke installation "Cunard x Mr. Brainwash" was commissioned in partnership with Clarendon Fine Art, who've represented the leading street artist in the UK since 2020 and whose galleries appear across the Cunard fleet of ships.

Three innovative limited editions have also been created which will be exclusively available to guests and feature each of the three Cunard Queens. Showcasing the iconic vessels, as well as Mr. Brainwash's unique style, the editions will offer guests an opportunity to acquire a unique moment in Cunard's history.

Yesterday's event marked the conclusion of Queen Elizabeth's arts-focused Pacific Coastal sailing from Vancouver to Los Angeles, which offered several Mr. Brainwash-inspired seminars as well as a screening of Banksy's Academy-nominated 'Exit Through the Gift shop' documentary featuring Mr. Brainwash. The largest collection of the artist's original artwork and limited-edition pieces ever seen at sea were also brought onboard for guests to view and purchase in Queen Elizabeth's art gallery.

The Los Angeles-based artist's work is held in public and private collections across the globe, including in all 75 of Clarendon Fine Art's UK and USA galleries as well as across the Cunard fleet. His 'Long Live the King' portrait of King Charles III, released to coincide with the Coronation, was a record release demonstrating the remarkable levels of interest in his work.

Some of his work also features in private collections belonging to the likes of Barack Obama, Al Pacino, Lionel Richie, and Rihanna, and he has also worked on charity collaborations with Pope Francis and the Dalai Lama.

Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said: "We are thrilled to have partnered with Mr. Brainwash for Queen Elizabeth's incredible new mural and it is a privilege to be associated with such an acclaimed and innovative artist. We always strive to provide guests with enriching and unique experiences on board and this one-of-a-kind masterpiece will certainly be enjoyed by our many art lovers."

Thierry Guetta, AKA Mr. Brainwash, who fronts the pop-up Mr. Brainwash Art Museum in Beverly Hills, added: "I am ecstatic to collaborate with Cunard because throughout history, they have proven to be timeless and consistent. This piece of mine holds massive significance. It is very special to me because it merges two worlds together and represents artistic expression on a grand scale. I believe creating accessible art is beautiful because it has the ability to enrich an individual's journey and ignite their imagination no matter where they are in the world or what they are doing. If I can manage to even bring that expression to the high seas, there truly is no limit to where art can go. This unveiling is more than an event; it marks something that will inspire those who see it immediately and for generations to come. In the future, I will look back on this collaboration with beautiful memories attached to it. This collaboration is beautiful."

Helen Swaby, CEO of Clarendon Fine Art, said: "We are proud and privileged that pop art phenomenon Mr. Brainwash has been invited into this unique collaboration with Cunard. For more than a decade we have had the pleasure of entertaining and educating guests aboard Cunard's luxury liners, and ever since we first introduced Mr. Brainwash to guests there has been an overwhelming level of interest and love for this work. In recent times we have rediscovered the importance of positivity and fun and his work has struck a chord with art collectors and art lovers helping us to connect with the lighter side of life. This moment marks the next step in Mr. Brainwash's meteoric rise to fame with his first ever mural taking up residency aboard a cruise ship. We hope that guests on the beautiful Queen Elizabeth enjoy the rare opportunity to view this uplifting and life-affirming artwork by one of the best-loved street artists of modern times."

SEATTLE, Aug. 22, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- From trending travel destinations to seldom-visited locales, Holland America Line's new 28-day "Arctic Circle Crossing: Greenland & Iceland" is a Legendary Voyage to Greenland, Iceland and Norway. Departing June 29, 2025, aboard Nieuw Statendam, the journey is inspired by the routes of Norse explorer Erik the Red who founded the first European settlement in Greenland.

Sailing roundtrip from Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the cruise features 15 ports across five countries, passage through the Arctic Circle, an overnight in Reykjavik, Iceland, scenic cruising through Iceland and Greenland's spellbinding fjords and four maiden calls in Greenland. Cruisers on the "Arctic Circle Crossing" will set sail on one of Holland America Line's most intensive explorations of this region ever offered.

"Legendary Voyages give us the opportunity to create longer cruises that delve deeper into a region and include ports we don't normally visit, like the four maiden calls in Greenland on the new Arctic Circle Crossing," said Beth Bodensteiner, chief commercial officer of Holland America Line. "We're taking this itinerary up to Norway's North Cape, then heading farther north in Greenland on both coasts and adding amazing opportunities in Iceland. At 28 days, it's the perfect length to showcase this area and give our guests an experience that goes beyond a brief introduction to the countries."

Highlights of the 'Arctic Circle Crossing' Legendary Voyage

  • 28 days, departing June 29, 2025, roundtrip from Rotterdam.

  • 15 calls in five countries (listed in order of visit): Ålesund, Trondheim, Honningsvåg (North Cape) and Tromsø, Norway; Ittoqqortoormiit (Scoresbysund), Greenland; Akureyri and Isafjördur Iceland; Nuuk (Godthåb), Sisimiut (Holsteinsborg), Ilulissat (Jakobshavn) and Nanortalik, Greenland; Reykjavik, Iceland (overnight); Stornoway (Isle of Lewis) and Invergordon (Inverness), Scotland; and Dover (London), England.

  • Maiden Calls, all in Greenland: Nuuk, Ittoqqortoormiit, Sisimiut, Ilulissat.

  • Crossing the Arctic Circle at several points throughout the voyage.

  • Overnight call July 20 and 21 in Reykjavik.

  • Scenic cruising opportunities: North Cape (Norway); Jan Mayen Island, a Norwegian volcanic island in the Arctic Ocean; Scoresbysund (Greenland); and Eyjafjördur and Ísafjardardjúr (Iceland).

What is a 'Legendary Voyage'?
These lengthier cruises, which range from 25 to 59 days, combine the ceremony of Holland America Line's
Grand Voyages while focusing on a singular region. They visit some of the most unique ports while offering guests an in-depth exploration. Shipboard programming is specially curated to share insights into the history and culture of the destinations visited.

Legendary Voyages are offered on a variety of the line's perfectly sized ships where guests enjoy the "best of" Grand Voyages on-board programming such as iconic theme parties, memorable sailaways and classic cruise activities to further enhance the experience.

Who is Erik the Red?
Norse explorer Erik Thorvaldsson, known as Erik the Red, was exiled from Iceland and set out to explore the land to the west, which he named Greenland. After establishing the first European settlement on an island near Qaqortoq, he returned to Iceland to bring more settlers back to Greenland. He is the father of Leif Erikson, one of the first Europeans to reach North America.

Cunard Celebrates Cruise Milestone with The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority in Victoria, BC

VALENCIA, Calif., August 16, 2023 – Cunard is proud to bring the ten millionth cruise passenger to Victoria, BC, where The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) welcomed them to The Breakwater District at Ogden Point on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. The passengers arrived on Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth, marking 54 years of cruise ships visiting Victoria.

The cruise industry has grown since the first cruise ship arrived in 1969. “Ten million cruise visitors to Victoria is an incredible milestone. Cruise supports the region's visitor economy and creates jobs that support Victoria's economic recovery. Engineers, entrepreneurs, accountants, mechanics and others are employed due to cruise tourism in Victoria, with salaries totalling over $40 million annually,” said Robert Lewis-Manning, CEO of GVHA.

Each year, cruise visitors and crew contribute $56 million to the local economy, purchasing tours and local transportation, retail goods and food and beverages. Cruise lines spend $84 million on warehousing, ship agents, repairs and maintenance, port fees and docking services.

"Victoria welcomes and celebrates its ten millionth cruise ship passenger,” said Mayor Marianne Alto. “The cruise industry is a valued and vital part of a regional visitor industry that continues to create countless career opportunities and support the livelihood of Victorians,” Alto added.

Two couples stepped off Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth this morning and were presented with a gift courtesy of the Bay Centre. Industry partners and stakeholders gathered at the port of Victoria to welcome these guests. “We’ve been married for 14 years, and we came on this trip to renew our vows,” said Emma Lonergan, a passenger from the UK.

“Victoria is a world-class city because it has something for everyone, from natural beauty, heritage and architecture to fabulous dining options and a warm community,” said Matt Gleaves, VP, Commercial, Cunard North America. "It is a much-loved highlight of Cunard’s voyages in this part of the world and holds great appeal for Cunard’s guests as well as from our sister brands across our corporation.”

Cunard Enables Shore Power Capability Across the Fleet

Cunard Enables Shore Power Capability Across the Fleet

VALENCIA, Calif., August 15, 2023 – Cunard achieves a ground-breaking milestone as the brand attains the capability for its entire fleet to connect to shore power.

Queen Elizabeth has been fitted with shore power capabilities and now all three Cunard ships – Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth – have the ability to plug into shore power, where available. The line’s newest ship, Queen Anne, set to debut in May 2024, will have the technology installed before her maiden voyage.

Shore power technology enables docked ships to connect directly to a specially fitted land-based source, allowing cruise ships to switch off their on board engines and operate on electricity sourced entirely from the local electrical grid, reducing emissions and noise while at port. The ability for the ships to plug in to local grids already exists at many key ports, including Queen Mary 2’s homeport at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal and Queen Anne’s homeport in Southampton, England.

Katie McAlister, President at Cunard, said: “By adopting shore power technology, we are taking a significant step in our ongoing commitment to reducing emissions, minimizing our carbon footprint, and fostering healthier port environments. The introduction of shore power technology aligns seamlessly with Cunard's corporate vision and values, and we are proud to be able to take such a positive step.”

‘Relaxed Luxury’ Trend Drives Growth in European Waterways’ Boutique Hotel Barge Cruises

Please note: some posts may contain affiliate links which means our team could earn money if you purchase products from our site

‘Relaxed Luxury’ Trend Drives Growth in European Waterways’ Boutique Hotel Barge Cruises

Today’s affluent travelers want to enjoy first-class service and accommodations, but in a friendlier, more casual setting without “old-world” pretentions. This “relaxed luxury” trend is helping to fuel the increasing popularity of European Waterways’ hotel barge cruises.  Available in Europe and the UK, the company’s deluxe vessels are often compared to floating boutique hotels.  Guests enjoy luxury amenities that include ensuite accommodations, a spa pool, and stylish furnishing. An attentive crew is always ready to satisfy their every wish, and an onboard master chef prepares their gastronomic meals, which are paired with the finest local vintages. Yet, amid all the luxury and special treatment, the atmosphere is always relaxed. Guests don’t feel the need to follow a “black tie” or fancy dress code.

Meanwhile, European Waterways’ excursions feature private transportation and often exclusive guided tours where guests interact with local personalities. They might even share a private meal with them in their own château!

“European Waterways’ guests want unique and memorable experiences that immerse them in the local culture – not as detached observers, but as active participants in ways that enrich their lives,” said Derek Banks, European Waterways’ managing director.  “They return from their excursions to a table that is exquisitely set for dining and worthy of the finest restaurant. They might even be greeted with live jazz onboard. The meals are always lively, entertaining, and often memorable, with conversations that produce long-term friendships beyond the cruise.”

Epic Journey
European Waterways’ 12-passenger La Belle Epoque deluxe hotel barge is a prime example of the luxury that awaits the company’s guests. It features wood-paneling, custom-made seating, a spacious sundeck, and spa pool, as well as marble ensuite junior cabins and staterooms.  A six-person crew ensures that every guest receives personalized service throughout the journey.

Cruising the Burgundy Canal, La Belle Epoque takes guests on excursions that include a private champagne tasting at Maison Taisne Riocour Champagne House, as well as dinner with the Baroness Ségolène De Taisne at her Château de Ricey-Bas. Other excursions include a visit to the Abbaye de Fontenay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Doing it With Panache
Featuring one of European Waterways’ most diverse cruising schedules, the 12-passenger Panache hotel barge cruises Holland in the spring, France’s Champagne region in early summer, and Alsace and Lorraine from July to October. The vessel’s yacht-like design boasts brass and mahogany fittings, panoramic windows for an unparalleled view of the passing countryside, leather chairs and polished hardwood floors. It also has a spacious sundeck that is perfect for relaxing and alfresco dining.

In Holland, itinerary highlights include a tour of the world famous Keukenhof Gardens. In Champagne, guests are treated to a private tour and tasting at Moët & Chandon. They also visit Epernay, the self-proclaimed capitale du Champagne (capital of Champagne) and home to many Champagne houses. Here, they are treated to a private tour of the cellar of one of its many wine producers. In Alsace and Lorraine, guests  watch glassblowers in action, ride a 150-foot-high boat lift and enjoy the famous local flammekueche tart.

Guests will also take a ride along the Route des Vins d’Alsace (the Alsace Wine Route) and savor a private tasting, among other experiences.

The High Life
At 117 feet in length, European Waterways’ Scottish Highlander has every comfort needed to enjoy the magnificence of the Scottish Highlands. Its décor evokes a country house atmosphere with subtle tartan furnishing, wooden paneling, and leather Chesterfield sofas.  A well-stocked open bar features some of Scotland’s finest single malt whiskies.

Among the itinerary highlights are a private tour and tasting at Dalwhinnie whisky distillery. It is one of the few in Scotland that still uses wooden worm tubs, the traditional way of turning spirit vapor back into liquid.  Guests also visit Eilean Donan and Urquhart castles, as well as get “up close and personal” to a bird of prey demonstration on the banks of Loch Ness. If they wish, they can take a picture with one of the magnificent birds perched on their arm!

About European Waterways
Hotel Barging is a boutique, unique experience that offers an immersive and all-inclusive “gentle voyage of discovery” focusing upon the culture, history, fine wine, and gourmet cuisine of regions. With a 6-to-20-person capacity and 1:2 crew ratio, European Waterways is able to provide an impeccable level of on-board service and transport their guests on intimate inland waterways that are inaccessible to larger vessels. This fascinating network of smaller canals allows for flexibility, spontaneity, and ample opportunity to hop off and explore the beautiful surroundings via bicycle, or on foot. In addition to this, there are daily, chauffeured excursions “off the beaten track” to a wide variety of enthralling locations, from exquisite wine tastings to private tours of stately homes. With over 40 years’ experience and a fleet that spans nine countries, European Waterways is the largest luxury hotel barging company in Europe.
